If you’re one for country life, a nostalgic ping! will sound in your heart when you enter Kalmoesfontein farm near Malmesbury. Such exaltations!
Explore old vineyards, swim in the dams, hit the biking trails, hike, zipline, do catch-and-release fishing and swing to your heart’s content. For mellower activities, take a twirl on the cellar tour, or a meet-and-greet with the many farm animals.
Each of the five cottages has charm. Set between old vineyards, a veggie garden and farm reservoir, the two-bedroomed Winemaker’s Cottage has a shaded stoep with fabulous views. Stables cottage also has two bedrooms and is secluded behind the cellar. Here, you can enjoy the moonrise over the mountains from the splash pool.
One-bedroomed Die Melkkamer is cosiness personified, while the Silo has an open-plan master bedroom looking onto the Swartland tableau. The perfect romantic getaway or honeymoon suite.
Peaceful Koringhuis is the oldest dwelling on the farm. Rustic yet luxurious, it has three bedrooms and bathrooms. Again, wonderful views are a given.
You can stock up at the farm shop, or even book ready-made meals, braai packs, extra bread and preserves. On Wednesdays and Fridays, wine tasting is followed by a farm lunch, while Thursday nights are pizza nights.
