Adventures at Atlantis Dunes

Take on the sands with grand adventures.

Stretching like a vast sea of sand, Atlantis Dunes are part of the Witzand Aquifer Nature Reserve and serve as a playground for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike. Here, professional adventure company Breathless Nomad provides a range of heart-racing activities where you can zip up and down dunes in a variety of manner.

Whether you’re zooming over the dunes on a quad bike or Jeep, sandboarding, or playing zorb ball gladiator, it’ll be the most fun you could have legally.

Quad Biking Thrills

For many, quad biking is the ultimate way to explore the vast and rolling dunes of Atlantis. Hop onto one of the powerful, yet stable automatic quad bikes, and you’re off, racing across the dunes with nothing but sky and sand as far as the eye can see. Each tour – designed for both beginners and seasoned riders – is an hour long. Ample time to revel in the experience.

Breathless Nomad’s 30 quad bikes can accommodate up to 20 riders at a time, making it perfect for group outings. Depending on parental consent, there’s no age limit, so it’s an accessible activity for most. And at R550 per person, it’s worth every penny.

Laughs and Laughter

Looking for laughs with a competitive edge? With the Bumper Ball Gladiator Competition you can let your hair down on the dunes. Donning inflatable zorb balls, participants bounce off one another in a designated area, competing to be the last person standing. Safe, family-friendly and absolutely hilarious, book this zany competition at R300 per person either as a standalone activity or an add-on to quad biking for a full day of fun.

Exploring in Style

If you’d like a laid-back way to enjoy the dunes without sweating it, the 4×4 Off-Road Experience is for you. In this guided tour, you’ll explore the incredible Atlantis Dunes in a modified, off-road Jeep Wrangler Sahara Convertible. Plus, weather permitting, the roof can be taken off for an immersive experience under the vast Cape sky.

Priced at R1 500 for two or R2 000 for four, the one-hour tour includes refreshments and educational talks about the reserve in a Nomad-themed gazebo tent, as well as plenty of photo ops. It’s the perfect bonding experience for couples, families or friends.

Surfing the Dunes

Welcome to the grainy world of sandboarding – a must for adventure junkies seeking an adrenaline-packed challenge.

Historians say the origins of sandboarding could date back to ancient Egypt, but this niche board sport started gaining traction throughout the world around the 1970s. In terms of equipment, sandboarding parallels snowboarding, but the technique is pretty much like surfing.

The 60-minute sandboarding session is priced at R400 per person. Heart-pumping it is for sure, but luckily it’s also an eco-friendly way to enjoy the dunes for first-timers and seasoned boarders alike.

Your adventure awaits!
