Beautiful Wamakersvlei, Dwarskersbos

The frisson of delight when arriving at Wamakersvlei is guaranteed to last throughout your stay. Exultant moments will be many: from sensational seascapes and one-of-a-kind Sandveld fynbos to beguiling starry nights and rich sunset dyes.

Traverse 400 hectares of nature at its most pristine by foot, mountain bike or 4×4 while inhaling the ocean’s aromatherapy. Follow the tracks and trails of duikers, steenbok, tortoises, ostriches and lynx across the natural saltpans all the way to the northern boundary of the Rocherpan Nature Reserve. Or meander along the 7-km private beach, while keeping a beady eye open for frolicking seals, dolphins and whales.

You’ll be seriously impressed with the five enchanting, pet-friendly cottages at this historic fisherman’s village from yesteryear. All deliciously discreet, Mosseltrap, Galjoenswaai, Skilpadkos, Bokmakierie and Naguiltjie sleep between four and eight people in either two or three bedrooms.

Cottage furnishings are as tailored as a city suit, sharing the odd period piece confidently with contemporary design. You’ll also find all the tech you need. Seeing that the cottages rely on borehole water driven by solar pumps, charming host Marlene Brand provides 5 litres of drinking water per cottage.

It’s hard to believe such tranquility is possible, but Wamakersvlei – situated 4 km north of Dwarskersbos – delivers this and more.
