ANY SELF-RESPECTING 4X4 ADVENTURER SHOULD DEFINITELY TICK OFF THE KLEIN TAFELBERG 4X4 TRAIL FROM A TO-DO LIST.
In the heart of the Sandveld, a mean 18-km circular route, graded three to four, awaits. Voted one of South Africa’s Top 10 4×4 trails, the guided trip takes between three and five hours to complete.
The challenge starts on the sand, complete with twists and turns, as well as some fun dune driving. After a picnic breather, the Adoons Mountain Trail beckons. It’s a rocky section with decidedly more bang for low-range, high ground clearance offroad vehicles. Boasting stunning views, this stretch has steep rocky descents and ledges.
With this fusion of sand, solid rock faces and rocky ledges, you can bet your bottom dollar that it’ll be the most fun you’ve had in a vehicle. But that’s not all. Offering some respite from concentrating on the road, the endemic fynbos and weathered sandstone formations will delight.
Situated 15 km from Redelinghuys, drivers can opt to overnight in comfortable chalets or set up camp in the shadow of Klein Tafelberg.
Cost: R250 per vehicle; chalets R750 pn (4 pax) & camping R250 (2 pax). To book contact cordial hosts Alfie and Gezie Louw, 083 7716237 or ktb4x4@breede.co.za. GPS: S32°33.4′, E18°28.44.
