E-bike safari at Buffelsfontein

Forget roaring engines and clouds of dust—the e-bike safari by African Eagle Day Tours through Buffelsfontein Game & Nature Reserve and the West Coast National Park hums quietly.

The experience begins with an early pickup, trading city noise for open landscapes, salt air and the occasional zebra giving you a disapproving stare. The beauty of the e-bike is that it lets you coast silently through the reserve, getting up-close-and-personal with wildlife.

Buffelsfontein’s 1 000-hectare reserve sports an impressive cast: buffalo, giraffe, rhino, kudu, wildebeest and ostriches. Of course the electric bikes make the ride as easy as pie, so you’ll focus less on surviving hills and more on soaking up the scenery for 2,5 hours.

After lunch, the tour rolls onward by van to the West Coast National Park where the landscape shifts into lagoon blues and fynbos greens, plus some game sightings too. In spring, the park famously erupts into a riot of wildflowers, while birdlife keeps binoculars busy year-round. The views over Langebaan Lagoon alone are worth the trip. Duration: 1 hour.

The whole experience is unhurried: part safari, part scenic cruise. And the best bit? Some invigorating exercise too, but no pedal-induced suffering. You can cruise past rhinos looking glamorously adventurous.
