Casual country walks on a 34-hectare honey-hued farm with many equine residents seems like just the thing to do right about now. But for those who prefer feats of derring-do, there’s that too in the form of a mean obstacle course at Sundowne Recreational Farm near Philadelphia.
Entering Kyle and Kathrin Shaw’s farm, you’ll instantly forget that buzzing Cape Town is a mere 40 km away – although the grandiose view of Table Mountain in the distance is a good reminder.
In the six pet-friendly ensuite rooms, white linen is freshened with bold injections of colour to the walls and soft furnishings. All units include conveniences such as a coffee station and bar fridge.
There are places aplenty to eat and drink nearby. However, if you’re disinclined to wander far, there’s a cosy communal kitchen to prepare your grub while braai buffs can use the sunlit braai area. Want to press pause on cooking? No problem. Your hosts are happy to serve a slap-up braai and salads, or build-your-own pizzas.
Should guests have a yen to spend the day out and about wine-tasting or sightseeing, rest assured that precious pets will be safe as houses in the enclosed yards.
