You won’t have to endure any beard-stroking lectures about “mouthfeel” at YzerBru Brewery. It’s refreshingly unpretentious and offers proper craft beer with enough character to keep patrons lingering. Founded in 2018, the brewery/restaurant has become one of Yzerfontein’s best watering holes.
Waka Waka Lager is an easy-going crowd pleaser. Golden, light and dangerously drinkable, it opens sweetly before delivering a bold wheaty finish that begs for another sip. It’s sort of “beach holiday in a glass” and quite quaffable. Pair it with wood-fired pizza, snoek pâté or fish and chips.
Pale Whale is an American IPA that doesn’t swing a hop hammer at your forehead. Instead, it’s balanced, crisp and refreshing, with notes of wheat, coriander and banana drifting through like an unexpected surf soundtrack. It’s superb with spicy chicken wings or burgers.
For darker moods, Little Black Betty steps up. This Belgian stout pours rich and creamy, layered with coffee, chocolate and dark fruit, before coriander and orange peel sneak in to complicate matters. It’s smooth, slightly boozy and made for slow evenings with sticky barbecue ribs or a decadent chocolate dessert.
And Dad’s Pills? Crisp, bright, clean and cheerful—the sort of beer that disappears alarmingly quickly. This is a natural partner for grilled prawns or bratwurst.
Hosts Derick and Antoinette keep things warm and welcoming. See you there!
