No question, seaside bucket-and-spade holidays are the best! And surfing aside, there’s an undeniable allure to Elands Bay for a beach stay. Satiate your passion for beach walks, visit quirky local restaurants, chat with intriguing locals, monitor the bird life at Verlorenvlei and visit the Baboon Point caves’ archaeological treasure chest. Not to mention swimming, surfing and diving.
All the above can be done from your base at Swell guesthouse in Kreef Street. Its accommodation options cater for romantic getaways, surf/yoga retreats, or a special celebration – with pets in tow. Sprawling over two floors, the main house (with a snooker table as a perk) comfortably sleeps 8 in three generously-sized ensuite bedrooms. Luckily, there’s also a self-contained unit with a separate entrance, veranda and kitchen available for couples.
Sporting coastal comfort, at the heart of the main house upstairs are the well-equipped kitchen (with dishwasher and washing machine) and an eight-seater dining area. And what a pleasure to enjoy sea and mountain views while grilling your fresh crayfish, snoek or black bream at the indoor braai. Plus, a huge entrance hall takes care of storage for surf boards, bicycles and whatnot.
But one of the highlights for sure is the enclosed garden. Here, you can get lost in a book or laze away. Mostly though, this house is a chilled place to spend a few languid days – or more.
