Mother and son artist duo Hannetjie de Clercq and Van Wessels are shining again at an ambitious exhibition. But this time their annual showcase takes place against the unassuming backdrop of the Sandveld’s Potato Capital, Redelinghuys.
Open from 10h00 – 16h00 on 13 and 14 May at 474 De Villiers Street, guests also will be treated to Hannetjie’s legendary snacks (with some vino of course!).
Make a weekend of visiting the exhibition. Not only does it promise to be as dizzying and gratifying as the duo’s previous ones in Riebeek Kasteel, but you’ll have time to explore the intriguing Sandveld and Verlorenvlei region. There’s much to do.
What’s more, two guesthouses are offering exhibition guests a discount for that weekend. There’s Manor House in Voortrekker Street for R480 pp B&B (ph 082 6435615); or Affi Plaas in Milner Street at R480 pp B&B (ph 076 6866017).
Acknowledged as South African art royalty, Hannetjie’s work forms part of the impressive Sasol Art Collection. Her paintings on the preferred mediums of tempera, watercolour and oil on canvas communicate a sense of serenity that’s deeply moving. Van has been a sculptor and ceramicist since 2003 and his exuberant off-the-wall subject matter changes with the seasons. His current favourite is ‘cover versions’.
